Down And “In” In Beverly Hills…

The AP just put out a piece on being homeless in Beverly Hills. Although they quote me in the article, I think the piece is irresponsible.

My quote is accurate… there are homeless all over the region, including in Beverly Hills.

However, they say that being homeless is different in Beverly Hills.

“Being homeless in this upper crust enclave is not exactly like living on the street in other places. There are handouts of $2,000 and bottles of Dom Perignon, lucky finds of Gucci shoes and diamond-encrusted bracelets, a chance to rub shoulders with rich and famous locals such as Mark Wahlberg and Master P, even empty houses to live in.”

It’s completely irresponsible. For one, living on the streets—no matter where you’re at—is unhealthy and not safe. And give me a break—you’re not going to get a $2,000 handout or a bottle of Dom Perignon if you’re homeless in Beverly Hills.

All this article does is encourage other people to go to Beverly Hills for handouts.

This is not good…

Joel,
This is so true. They are encouraging homelessness in Beverly Hills! These people have lost it, and my guess is they have never taken a second to stop and ask a homeless their story. This is what happens when people in offices write about homelessness. People need to see and understand what homelessness really is! Thanks Joel, for writting this little smidget. Awesome,

I'm homeless in Beverly Hills. But
I'm clean-living,just no family,and
had some bad luck (disruption to an
entertainment career.)

I don't panhandle,but I get lucky
sometimes. No $2000 handouts,but
somebody gave me $100...for Christmas!

Recently, signs were put up (including "no camping"). And I was
cited twice...this,btw,has to end.
More and more U.S. cities are being
sued,for un-Constitutional attacks
on the rights of homeless people.

Beverly Hills has suddenly turned
mean toward the homeless,probably
because what a small percentage of
"transients"--no longer in town--
have done! But I didn't do it.

Yet,the town IS much safer than other places.
