Innovative “Haven” Center Will Bring Hope to San Antonio’s Homeless

After conducting extensive research on homelessness and visiting several successful homeless centers around the country, including the PATHMall, the group set the strategic vision to open the Haven for Hope campus, an innovative center that will provide a wide range of social services to meet the needs of the city’s homeless in a “one-stop” setting.
Far beyond shelter, food and clothing, Haven for Hope’s services will be geared to combat the root causes of homelessness, with over 66 committed partner agencies providing the services. The center is scheduled to open in Spring 2009. They have raised $74 million for this campus.
They will also be building over 300 Permanent Supportive Housing units on its campus. This is the future of multi-service centers in the country. Where these centers become the “community base” (a role that I will describe later in our “Services To Housing” model) for linking people to permanent housing.
It is very inspiring to hear of Haven for Hope’s integrated center which is taking the lead in forming strategic partnerships that will help hundreds of homeless individuals in San Antonio to find services and housing. San Antonio has raised the bar for integrating traditional homeless services in one city. They are truly becoming a national model.
It is a pleasure to partner with them. For more information about Haven for Hope, visit: http://www.havenforhope.org/.

We hope that the Center will help distribute pet food as well to the homeless that have pets.
The pets of the homeless are nonjudgmental, offer comfort, and provide an emotional bond of loyalty. In some cases, they provide the homeless protection and keep them warm.
Feeding Pets of the Homeless is a nonprofit member organization that provides pet food and veterinarian care to the homeless and less fortunate in local communities across the United States and Canada.
How? The members collect pet food and deliver it to food banks and/or soups kitchens which have agreed to distribute the food to the homeless and impoverished. Members and organizations are listed at www.petsofhomeless.org
