ACLU Jumpstarts "Homelessness In The City"

ACLU Ramona Ripston, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) kicks off the list of leading community experts selected to serve as Guest Columnist in Homelessness In The City (HITC), an online community forum designed to solicit ideas and encourage the exchange of information about homelessness in cities throughout the country.
Ramona Ripston's perspective is unique to the conversation of homelessness. She represents an organization that’s sole mission is committed to fighting for individuals that struggle for civil liberties and protection under the Bill of Rights.
Ramona Ripston has served as the executive director of the ACLU of Southern California since August of 1972. Under her leadership, the ACLU of Southern California has become the busiest of all 53 national ACLU affiliates, with a docket of more than 100 active cases, a 35-member staff, and a membership of nearly 30,000. She holds positions on the boards of a number of organizations, including the Board of Visitors of Southwestern University of Law, the First Amendment Foundation, and Human Rights Watch. She received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law and has received numerous honors and awards from civil rights organizations.
The goal of HITC is to bring people together through virtual dialogue, and to strengthen the linkages between communities at the grass roots level. HITC will facilitate a new interactive blog on how to address homelessness through honest talk, strategic thinking and collaborative action.
On September 1st, PATH Partners will launch Homelessness In The City.
Each week leading up to the September 1st launch, LA’s Homeless Blog will highlight a new Community leader/Expert Columnist who will be featured at HITC.
Stay tuned for next Monday’s HITC participant!
