Update On LA County’s Homeless Initiative

A couple of years ago, the Los Angeles County took a historic and bold step toward addressing homelessness in this region—they voted to invest $100 million toward programs to help get people off the streets.

Here is their progress report that was announced yesterday:

- 719 homeless families were given $2,000 each to help move them into permanent housing.

- Helped 1,179 families at risk of becoming homeless

- Increased rental subsidies from $300 per month to $500 per month

- Moved 300 families out of Skid Row and into temporary housing

- Helped 17 of the most chronic homeless in Skid Row access permanent housing with support services

- Allocated tens of millions of dollars to city and community-based organizations around the county to construct affordable housing.
