Foreclosures Invite Squatters

The AP is reporting that as more homes are being foreclosed due to owners not being able to pay their mortgage, there is an increase of squatters moving into these homes.

The original homeowners typically move out of their homes and usually move into rental apartments. So those who are homeless move into these vacant homes. It's a sad form of a human food chain--from homeowner, to renter, to homeless.

Sometimes these foreclosed homes still have the heat, lights, and water working. And if the utilities are not working, people who are homeless will use candles.

"Many homeless people see the foreclosure crisis as an opportunity to find low-cost housing (FREE!) with some privacy," Brian Davis, director of the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless, said in the summary of the latest census of homeless sleeping outside in downtown Cleveland.

In a way, this is the American version of squatting in the first world.

If the homeless who want to get a REAL trade/skill were allowed to there would be less homeless. But that's not allowed; perfectly normal people have to go through years of treatment for nonexsiting conditions just for a dirty mat on the floor. The human toll and torture just so a few greedy degreed people can get a paycheck is a crime against humanity.
