How To Deal With Skid Row? Crack Down On Drug Dealers…

City and State officials are cranking up their efforts to clean up Skid Row. The L.A. Times article today states that a number of new measures will be implemented to deal with the criminal behavior on Skid Row. Here's the article.
This includes:
- Setting up video surveillance on the streets. This anti-crime measure is similar to what they have done successfully in Hollywood and MacArthur Park.
- Increasing the number of undercover detectives and uniformed patrol officers on the streets.
- And proposing a state law that mandates inmates released from the county jail system be returned to the communities where they were arrested.
Literally, one fifth of all city-wide drug arrests occur on the streets of Skid Row.

It's dishearting to see that many of the solutions for skid row revolve around a law enforcement perspective.
It's a no-brainer that we can't arrest are way out of this situation. So instead of focusing on mental health treatment or affordable housing for the homeless, we let the LAPD recommend video surveillance cameras on skid-row streets. Brilliant!
On top of that, LAPD is giving kids tickets to keep them off the streets to keep them "safe." Yet, when they finally leave skid row, they have a warrant on their record, which prevents them from getting a job. We have to stop criminalizng poverty and the use of these idotic practices.
Im against putting up surveillance cameras on the streets, not because I dont feel it would help the problem, but because of the principal of the matter. This is going to be the beginning of what will soon be surveillance on every major street in Los Angeles, and no, im not down with that.
I am in total agreement, we should not be criminalizing the homeless by writing tickets. Kathy t said...
I would like to know what is the contributing factors or the cause of homelessness. The number of homeless victims is increasing daily. The debate is on-What do you think the cause or causes or homelessness to be!
